The New Beginner's Guide to USB Port Configuration

$

Pre-amble

When I originally wrote the Beginner's Guide to Creating a Custom USB SSDT the idea was to demystify and simplify the process of configuring all those USB ports our PC motherboards come with, so that they worked properly under macOS. The main sticking-point for many builders was the arbitrary 15-port limit Apple has imposed. We have to accept this, but still make best use of the ports we have which often involves 'losing' a few from the ones that are present, to keep...

Are GPU drivers the problem? Catalina vs Resolve 17

I've been putting off updating to Big Sur simply because I don't have time at the moment. But I was forced to update Davinci Resolve recently (long story) from 16 to 17.2.2, and all of a sudden I have no ability to playback any video within Resolve. I'm a Studio user, BMD claim they can't help me because I have a Hackintosh. But they did say that the issue is probably incompatible GPU drivers. Could someone please decipher this for me? Is it possible that the new version of Resolve has been...

Ubuntu Linux entry missing in OpenCore 0.7.0 menu in a Multiboot System with separate drives

Hi All,
in order to install macOS Big Sur in a dedicated APFS volume on my multiboot system (WIN-macOS-Linux) on separate drives (UEFI-Mode), it was necessary to switch from Clover to OpenCore. So I created the USB pendrive for Big Sur install using OpenCore 0.7.0. Before installing Big Sur, I wanted to test OpenCore on my current multiboot system and I realized that while the Windows 10 entry appears in the OpenCore menu (and it seems to boot fine), the Ubuntu Linux entry does not appear...

Alternatives to Z490 vision D

Good afternoon,

I am starting the process of choosing parts for a new build, and ideally my choice of motherboard would have been Gigabyte Z490 Vision D, regarded by many (at least by readin online discussions) as the most compatible and easiest to hack for Mac OS.

Unfortunately, it is now unavailable and likely to never be available again as Intel moves to newer generations.

Is there a consensus on what is the best path for a build with the parts available today, using a Comet Lake CPU...

I tried to follow the instructions at https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/macos-11-5-2-update.315137/#post-2269640 to upgrade from Catalina (10.15.7) - I updated Clover to 5138 and updated all the kexts to the newest versions using Clover Configurator.

The problem I have is when the Clover boot menu appears, it does not have the "Boot macOS Install" option, only the "Boot macOS" and "Boot macOS Recovery" options. When I choose either of the visible options, I see the boot screen with...

Afternoon all. I need to update my Hackintosh in order to run Catalina. It appears by research that my graphics card may not work with Catalina and I may need to update it. Can you look at my current build below and let me know what will work and won't work if I rebuild for Catalina? Appreciate any advice you can give me, like recommending equivalent updated parts and such.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Designare

Just got the card in the mail this morning.

It is replacing a 5700 XT which was working fine on Big Sur, OpenCore 63.

The rest of my system:

I7-8086k
MSI Z370I

The last system log shows a « PerfPowerService » error, unauthorized client on AMDRadeonX6000_AmdGpuWrangler in the pci-bridge@0 configuration.

I have tried the following so far:

- Forced my pci bus to 3x
- removed agdpmod=pikera, tried to re-add it, change definition to MacPro1,1 via board-id.
- Added an iGPU in the BIOS

Stuck at Boot Up

To make a long story short - I had to get my PSU replaced when it choked after moving to a new place. In the process of troubleshooting, I took the SSD's out of the tower and attach it to macbook pro to check if they're ok or not. I then sent it to the MicroCenter to check other hardware to be sure that there are no other hardware components being affected - they determined that it was only PSU that was affected (whew!)

But then when I put the SSDs back in and fired it up, now I get an...

Hi...

After make some changes in my config.plist, i have 2 windows entries.

What I did was to add \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efi to Misc>Blessoverride. With that I avoid Bluescreen when booting Windows from OpenCore entries.

But now I have 2 entries, and I have no idea how to eliminate one .....

Any idea?

Big Sur Boot Help

Hello,

So I started to upgrade my working Catalina to Big Sur. I was following the installation guide. The first thing I did was upgrade Clover to todays latest version (5138). Now I’m getting the following issues an cannot boot in. See pics.
EF83DE0A-5AAC-46D6-B235-D95810F7A7BF.jpeg This first pic is in the BIOS booting.
2690A4A8-77B2-46C9-9D23-467239979D2E.jpegThe second pic is verbose booting. This is where I hangs up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
